I have spent the last two day’s photographing the build up to the Whitby Seafoods’ Classic Beach Volleyball Tournament. What struck me most about the sport, was how inclusive it is. In fact the local coach, Anthony Laffan has even developed a version of the game which can be played by people in a wheelchair.
Children from Whitby and Scarborough as well as adults, some with learning difficulties from Botton Village, have been training hard for today’s tournament. It has been fantastic to see the dedication of young and old and all abilities practising, joining in and learning this great sport.
I was shooting the images for Whitby Seafoods who sponsored the game and served up Whitby Scampi from their Scampi Camper on the pier. They also invited Team GB volleyballers Chris Gregory and Jake Sheaf, two of the best volleyballers in the world who showed a great passion for getting people involved in the game.
For anyone interested in learning the sport, all ages and abilities are welcome to training sessions with the North Riding Eagles, check out their Facebook page for more info.
What better way to spend a Saturday morning than being energetic on the beach with sea air, great sportsmanship, and scampi, even in the rain!
