Press Photography for the Whitby Gazette by Ceri Oakes
I wanted to share this feature I shot for the Whitby Gazette about Geri of Smuggler’s Treasures as the basis of it, becoming a plastic free society, is very topical right now and something I think everyone should get involved with.
I visited Geri’s workshop at dusk on a chilly afternoon in January, I loved the glow of the lights as Geri concentrated on her work, she is a dedicated jewellery maker, creating one off pieces by hand. But she is also dedicated to the environment in both her work and home life.
Conducting beach cleans in her spare time and making positive changes to become plastic-free Geri is honouring the environment which inspires her work. Her creations often include sea glass, pebbles and ceramics found along the beach while she removes harmful plastics and litter along the way.
