Outdoor Family Photoshoot in Whitby by Ceri Oakes Photography
The Beamer family, who I have photographed before, recently got in touch to see if I could shoot a large family portrait for them, with five adults and five children. The idea was to get a nice natural photo to frame for the children’s grandma, as a surprise birthday gift.
We picked the field close to their home as the buttercups were in flower, adding a splash of colour. It was a slightly misty but fairly bright day and the flowers helped to add a summery feel to the images.
We shot the large group picture straight away and managed to capture this relaxed photo of the whole family. We then had time to capture some smaller group photos as well as some candid ones and have a bit of fun! Frothy the dog got involved and was the best behaved dog I have ever encountered on a photoshoot – he posed like a trooper!!
The natural setting worked really well for a photoshoot with young children as they were happy to run around and play in the flowers in between set ups and they loved walking hand in hand through the buttercups. When a train passed through the next field we all headed over to watch it pass by. The hour flew by and we ended up with a great set of photos at the end of it that captured how chilled and laid back the family were.
I’ve shared some below to show the different set ups we tried and some cute and fun moments!
